Youth perspective on the Independence Movement captured in UCC
In this competition, the top honors were awarded to the following teams: "Wings of Freedom" in the elementary school category [comprising students Yoo Yeong-jae (6th grade, Daedong Elementary), Yoo Yoon-kyung (6th grade, Yeonseo Elementary), and Jeon Hye-seung (6th grade, Daedong Elementary)]; the "Shinbaknabi" team in the middle school category [comprising students Han Yu-na (2nd grade, Areum Middle School), Park Ho-hyun (2nd grade, Dajeong Middle School), and Shin Yul-bi (1st grade, Dajeong Middle School)]; and Lee Hyun (2nd grade, Sejong High School) in the high school category. The Excellence Awards went to the teams "Bangji-oh," "Independent Princesses" [Choi Ji-woo, Lee Yoon-ji, Go Mi-so, Park Sang-ah], "Goun Youth Center" [Park Joo-ho, Kim Ji-hoo, Kim Joo-won, Jung Seo-hyun, Kim Ye-bin], and "Joseon Independence Manse" [Kim Se-min, Kim Se-jin, Jang Jun-hyuk] (all in the elementary category), as well as the "Danhapryeok" team [Hong Yoon-hoo, Kang Min-jae] and Lee Eun-ji (both in the middle school category).
The UCC competition aimed to inspire the spirit of the independence movement and foster a proper historical consciousness among the youth, enabling them to grow into global leaders, while enhancing their pride and self-esteem.
Chapter President Eom expressed his hope that this event would provide an opportunity for youth, the future leaders, to share and communicate the spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by independence activists with their peers, and to once again instill the significance of the nation in their hearts.
Executive Director of the Sejong Chapter of the Heritage of Korean Independence, Hann Jee-hoon, who served as the chief judge for the competition, commented, "Each team that participated in the UCC competition demonstrated a deep understanding of the spirit of sacrifice shown by independence activists and made commendable efforts to express it in their own way. The teams produced videos that were diverse, witty, and engaging, allowing viewers to both enjoy and empathize with the content."
For this competition, from May 21st to July 31st, video submissions were accepted on the theme of reflections on the independence movement and its impact on our present lives. The submissions were judged on August 2nd, based on criteria such as understanding of the historical significance of the independence movement, future-oriented attitudes of the youth, and originality, leading to the selection of the winners.
