"Maestro in a Wheelchair" Professor Cha In-hong delivers a lecture at Angseong Elementary SchoolProfessor Cha In-hong from Wright State University in Ohio, USA, visited Angseong Elementary School on June 12th to deliver a special lecture of love. Professor Cha, who overcame physical disabilities from childhood polio and a challenging family background, pursued doctoral studies in the United States. He has served as an orchestral violinist and conductor both domestically and internationally, currently holding a tenured position at Wright State University.
Angseong Elementary School invited not only its students and teachers but also educational families, residents, nearby school students, and faculty to ensure the event served as a special occasion for a community with typically less access to cultural benefits compared to larger cities. For the event, the school prepared bookmarks featuring a phrase from Professor Cha's book, Wheelchair Is My Wings, stating "Love becomes our path." for the attendees. Additionally, CDs with orchestral music that Professor Cha had conducted were distributed through a lottery system to create lasting memories for all educational families present.
Principal Heo Gyeong-mi expressed deep gratitude for Professor Cha's moving performance and lecture, likening the experience of hearing his beautiful violin as celestial music for the students. She hoped that just as Professor Cha's encounter with violinist Kang Min-ja had been a miraculous meeting, this day would also inspire their students to dream and hope, becoming outstanding individuals like Professor Cha.
In response, Professor Cha thanked everyone for attending, expressing his initial concerns about the younger students' engagement but being pleasantly surprised by their attentive listening and genuine interest in both the lecture and music. He appreciated the presence of teachers and adults from the community, and wished that the day would remain a cherished memory for both the students and himself. He hoped they would grow into good children and adolescents with big dreams.
Meanwhile, amidst a tight schedule before his departure, Professor Cha revisited Eumseong Dongseong High School the next day, on June 13th, where he had lectured the previous year, to have a reunion with the students whom he met last year and give a special lecture for this year's first-year students. Professor Cha visits schools to give a special lecture every time when he has a chance during his stay in Korea. <저작권자 ⓒ 먼데이타임스 무단전재 및 재배포 금지>
